Safety Tips for Driving with Your Dog

Chevrolet vehicles do a great job of providing a comfortable, roomy environment for your dog as well as your human loved ones. To maximize everyone’s safety as well, here are some tips to follow whenever you hit the road with your furry buddy.

Don’t let pets ride unrestrained

Whether you’re taking a short trip or a long drive, it’s safer for everyone if your dog rides with proper restraints instead of roaming the cabin. Depending on your canine’s size, you can choose a secured crate, a strapped-in pet carrier, or a harness with a pet seat belt. It’s also best for your dog to stay in the back seat or cargo hold and keep its head inside the window.

Keep your pup comfortable

Make sure your vehicle provides a comfortable, calm environment for your dog. A soft blanket, seat cover, or floor mat is sure to help. Bring food, water, meds, a leash, a waste scoop, and toys as well. Monitor the cabin temperature to make sure your pup doesn’t get too hot or cold. And make regular stops for stretching and bathroom breaks, too.

Help your dog acclimate to riding

Before tackling a longer trip, get your dog used to riding in a vehicle by going on shorter drives. If your furry friend has any car-related issues, it’s better to discover these ahead of time instead of at the beginning of a long road trip.
