If you’re in the market for a new truck to take on adventures both on and off the road, consider the Chevrolet Colorado. Kelley Blue Book recently named the 2021 Colorado ZR2 to the top of its list of the 15 Best Off-Road Trucks in 2021.
This midsize pickup comes fully stocked with off-road equipment so it’s ready for whatever lies on the path ahead. It features a 2-inch suspension lift, segment-exclusive Multimatic™ dampers, front and rear locking differentials, skid plates, rock sliders, and aggressive off-road tires.
Under the hood, the Colorado ZR2 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This is more than enough power to get you through a thick mud pit or up a steep, rocky slope.
In addition to its impressive off-road capabilities, the Colorado ZR2 will keep you and your family riding in comfort. It has a roomy cabin with supportive seats to keep you in place while navigating difficult terrain. It’s also easy to stay connected while inside the Colorado thanks to the standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility as well as the optional 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot.

AutoPacific recently announced its 2021 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards — and three Chevrolet vehicles were among the winners. The Blazer, Colorado, and Camaro were all rated highly by their owners for comfort, performance, looks, and more.
To determine these awards, AutoPacific surveyed nearly 90,000 vehicle owners, having them rate what they liked — and didn’t like — about their new vehicles. Those results, which cover 36 different categories, are weighted by importance and used to determine top-scoring models for each segment.
The Chevrolet Blazer won in the Premium Mid-Size Crossover SUV segment. Owners loved its sporty and powerful performance, aggressive-looking design, and easy-to-use controls.
The Chevrolet Colorado topped the Compact Pickup segment. The Colorado’s capability, power, and exterior styling were rated highly by owners as well as the truck’s comfortable and intuitive cabin.

When it comes to size, the Silverado 1500 is the larger of the two trucks. Classified as a full-size pickup, the Silverado 1500 is more of a family vehicle — it offers more headroom, legroom, and cargo volume than its smaller sibling. The Colorado, on the other hand, is a midsize truck. Thanks to its more compact size, it’s better suited to city driving and maneuvering though tight spots on off-road trails.
While both of these Chevy trucks offer plenty of power, the Silverado delivers more horsepower and torque than its midsize stablemate. On the Colorado, you’ll be able to pick from three engine options that range in power from the base-trim 200-horsepower 2.5-liter engine to the Duramax® turbo-diesel that unleashes 369 horsepower. The Silverado starts out with a 285-horsepower engine maxes out with a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 dynamo.
As a larger truck, the Silverado 1500 offers a greater towing capacity and higher payload capacity than the Colorado. With the Silverado 1500, you can tow up to 13,300 pounds or haul a maximum of 2,280 pounds. By comparison, the Colorado maxes out at 7,700 pounds of towing and 1,550 pounds of payload when properly equipped — which is still plenty of muscle for towing boats and trailers or transporting supplies for your next DIY project.
When shopping for a truck, consider what you intend to use it for. If it’s a family vehicle, you may want to narrow your search to models with spacious seating configurations. If you plan on hauling home improvement supplies, you may benefit from a long-bed model. Finally, if you crave outdoor adventures, pick a truck with four-wheel drive, a Z71 suspension, or a factory-installed lift kit.
Take it for a test drive
Before you sign on the dotted line, consider taking the truck for a test drive to confirm that it’s the right choice for you. Make sure that the vehicle fits you comfortably, and that you and your family members are comfortable climbing into and out of the truck. Try out the lights, infotainment system, and climate controls, and get to know the way it handles. You may learn that you’d prefer a larger or smaller Chevy truck.
