4 Signs That Your Car’s Transmission Needs Service

Chevrolet Service | Jupiter Chevrolet | Garland, TX

If you have been driving your current vehicle for at least a year, you likely have a great feel for how it normally handles. When something changes, even if its subtle, you should pay attention to those differences as it might indicate a problem. Here are four signs your car’s transmission needs service. If you do need service, schedule an appointment at Jupiter Chevrolet today.

  1. Sweet burning smell. If you notice a sweet or tart smell coming from your vehicle, this could be a sign of burning transmission fluid. If the fluid is burning, it could be overheating, or there could be a leak that is dripping onto other hot engine components.
  2. Leaking fluid. Transmission fluid is usually a clear, red fluid. If you notice a red, sweet-smelling puddle beneath your vehicle, you likely have a transmission fluid leak.
  3. Check engine light. There are many reasons why your check engine light can turn on and one of those is transmission problems. There are sensors throughout the engine that are designed to detect any irregularities and trigger that light. If the check engine light comes on, your best bet is to have your vehicle inspected.
  4. Shaking during gear shifts. Most modern vehicles are equipped with an automatic transmission. The gear shifts tend to be smooth and almost imperceptible. If you feel shaking while your car is shifting into gear, this could be a transmission problem.
